Estragon jan, it's great to hear from you. Your description of Afghanistan was very touching and beautiful. Thanks for taking the time to fill us in on your adventures. Please be safe and looking forward to hearing from you again from Mazar bakhair.

Salaam estragon,
I am glad you made it there safely and I am also glad that your are enjoying Kabul.
It is sad to hear about the pollution. The millions of stars in the skies of Kabul at night were what we used to brag about, but I guess like many other things, that too is just a memory.
I am glad you had a chance to meet Farhad and Najla jaan. Take care of yourself and take lots of pictures.

hello estragon,
nice to hear from you...iw as just about to open a new thread, for enquiring whats happening on your side...i thought that maybe you are pre occupied in the German elections, anyways its good to hear that you are in Afghanistan...in the present trip if you have got some time, I give you the offer of visiting Pakistan too...I could show you around...the way that Pakistan is being portrayed in the media, it aint that bad, the tourists are in smaller numbers these days but thats due to the hype created by the media...I met a guy from Switzerland yesterday in Islamabad...if you can make it to Pakistan in your current trip I will be more than glad to meet you here...

weeelll...
thanks for y'all good wishes...
and I bet some of you are jealous, as I will be when I am back hearing from others who just go...
I hate to think of going back so soon... this could last a couple of months... but...

I'll be going up north tomorrow, to salang, khejan, andarab (it might already snow there) and then to kunduz, taloqan...

meeting dostum AND general attar in mazar...
on my way back down to kabul, I"ll be passing through panjshir valley... I might even meet some of farzanas relatives (maybe her uncle too !!
I also fround the panjshir-film-studio called "aria-film", they really have material !!

and I might go to bamyian too, look for the "hidden buddha"...

I'll be without internet until 5th october, so y'all behave and think of afghanistan, okay ?

diana, daud of kunduz is a very nice person, as all of his men, I'll tell storys when I am back, but you know, when you meet them personally, they all seem to be nice persons, unable to hurt a fly... but then we all know what they really can do, don't we...

I am not worried at all, believe me, I feel as safe as ever and everywhere, afganistan is not as dangerous as we all believe...

you know, life goes just as normal, as if there had never been any war, or taleban or other bandits...
it really peaceful, unbelievable as it might sound !

next year the tourists will come back, and I will to, driving an old mercedes down... I took the order !!

oin my way back, I'll spend three days in teheran, that will be fun also, dancing with khomeinis guys... I really had agreat time at the airport and in the hotel..

my dari is improving, its so easy being in the country... and I also wear a light blue shalvar kameez and a grey pakul... you"ll see the pics when I am back, great fun !!

people love me, because we always have endless jokes and laughter !! I am a jester, and they ALL are my friends now... I can"t count them anymore !!

no ethnic limits... at least with me !!

I am glad that you are enjoying your stay in Afghanistan.  Can't wait for the pictures.  If you run into my "family" give them my love.

While you are in Mazar-e-Sharif, make sure to use Dostom's indoor swiming pool and don't forget to take pictures

Stay safe

How great Estragon! I just came to know u r in Afghanistan. Is this a personal trip or professional trip? Enjoy your stay there and do not forget to take pictures of Khair Khaha. U know seeing brave guys going there I sometimes intend to take up a job or a project in Afghanistan but still do not have the real guts to do so. Anyways tell us more and have fun and enjoy the wonderful and tasty food there. I think the most delicious food on earth is found in Afghanistan as everything is organic and natural. Ok take care and bring me some qoroot and gosht e qaaq.

Estragon,

I'm not sure I am as happy as you seem to be about this parting of the ways with the rest of the group.  You sound like you are pulling a "Jason Elliot tour of Afghanistan."

You be careful out there  (Direct quote from Hill Street Blues- ).  Check in when you can.  I bet Dostum has an internet connection.  So, while he's paddling around in his pool perhaps he will let you fire off a brief message or two from Mazar-i-sharif.

Be Well,
Diana
